In certain traditions, trinkets are used to symbolize friendship or affection, especially between family members. In addition to armor, weapons and potions, players are able to upgrade their trinkets. Upgrades can be made by paying the appropriate currency to an upgrade vendor. Trinkets like other items that can be upgraded, can be traded at will without losing statistics. The upgrade vendors are found in major cities and the capital of each zone, and in in dungeons. Upgrades for trinkets can be purchased using tokens, gold, or fragments from a rare trinket. Upgrading a trinket is an economical alternative to buying a new one. A player can upgrade a trinket with as little 12 tokens. The new trinket will come with the same base ilvl as the older one, and come with an additional 1% upgrade bonus. Trinkets can be upgraded when they're no longer needed and allows players to increase their power and value over time. They can be traded among players which makes them a good alternative to gold. In general, players should upgrade their top-priority items first. This means that the most-important slot items for each class are first upgraded, followed by their secondary gear, and then other equipment that they won't be replacing in the near future (such as an earring or a cloak). When deciding which items to upgrade, players should also be aware of the preferred statistics of their class. If Haste and Crit are two of the most important stats to a tank player, then they should upgrade their chest, helm and shoulders. Trinkets can be upgraded to a higher ilvl once they're no longer needed and the new trinket can be upgraded to have an additional bonus of 1% for upgrading. However, a re-upgrade will cause the trinket to be destroyed in the event that it is not saved using the Black Lion Salvage Kit or an additional salvage tool of higher quality. Upgrades to trinkets can be more expensive than other upgrades but still less expensive than purchasing a new one.
